Bell Therapeutics announced on the 21st that it was selected for the Works & Research category at the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) and showcased a music system designed for people with hearing impairments on the 9th. Bell Therapeutics is a startup developing digital therapeutics by sonifying data. ICMC is the leading international event in the field of computer music. At the conference, Bell Therapeutics researcher Wonwoo Lee presented the “WOWLog” system for cochlear implant users with hearing impairments. A cochlear implant is a tiny device implanted in the cochlea to stimulate the auditory nerve, allowing users to perceive sound. The WOWLog system enables cochlear implant users to enjoy music. Lee designed this system based on auditory perception mechanisms, meeting weekly with cochlear implant users.
Following this achievement, Bell Therapeutics plans to develop a digital therapeutic for hearing rehabilitation for individuals with hearing loss. They are currently conducting basic clinical research in collaboration with Professor Myunghwan Seo from Seoul National University Hospital’s Otolaryngology Department and researcher Sungkyung Kim from the University of Warwick in the UK. Bell Therapeutics CEO Jonghwa Park stated, “Through this research, we have found a breakthrough in rehabilitation therapy for people with hearing loss,” adding, “We aim to verify the mechanism and effectiveness with clinical institutions to address the challenges faced by those with hearing impairments.”
