Bell Therapeutics announced on the 23rd that it has launched a clinical trial for a cochlear implant rehabilitation digital therapeutic in collaboration with Professor Choi Byung-Yoon's team from the Department of Otolaryngology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.

This clinical trial aims to significantly shorten the typical 1-2 year rehabilitation period following cochlear implant surgery.

A cochlear implant is an innovative medical technology that restores hearing for individuals with severe hearing loss, enabling even those who cannot benefit from hearing aids to perceive sound. However, the lengthy rehabilitation process required after cochlear implant surgery has been a significant challenge for many patients.

Bell Therapeutics has pursued years of development based on the latest research in neuroscience and music therapy. Following a successful pilot study with cochlear implant users, the company is now advancing to a full-scale clinical trial.

The trial, led by Professor Choi’s team, follows a rigorous double-blind randomized controlled design. Participants—adult patients who have undergone cochlear implant surgery—will be divided into a treatment group using the digital therapeutic and a control group. After three months of therapy, the effectiveness of the treatment will be evaluated through language tests.

Professor Choi, a world-renowned authority in otolaryngology who has performed over 1,000 cochlear implant surgeries, commented, “We have long awaited a more effective and expedited rehabilitation method for clinical practice. I am hopeful that this trial will improve patients’ quality of life.”

Lee Jae-eun, CEO of Bell Therapeutics, stated, “We hope this digital therapeutic will dramatically improve rehabilitation for cochlear implant patients. We are committed to making this a valuable tool for healthcare providers and speech therapists in clinical settings.”
