Bell Therapeutics, a neuroscience-based digital therapeutics company, participated in the Association for Research in Otolaryngology (ARO) conference, where they introduced a music playlist designed to assist cochlear implant users in their auditory rehabilitation.
Cochlear implants are advanced medical devices that restore hearing to individuals with severe hearing loss. Post-surgery, patients often face challenges in auditory rehabilitation, particularly in music appreciation, due to the device’s limitations. Recognizing this, Bell Therapeutics developed a customized music playlist tailored to the auditory mechanisms of cochlear implant users. This initiative was a collaborative effort involving experts in otolaryngology, music therapy, biomedical engineering, and neuroscience.
The playlist, now in its second version, was first introduced at the Asia Pacific Symposium on Cochlear Implant and Related Sciences. It is freely accessible to medical professionals worldwide, who can provide it to their patients via a QR code for easy access.
Dr. Jung-Mi Park, a key researcher at Bell Therapeutics and a professor of music neuroscience at Seoul National University, stated, “It was meaningful to apply principles of auditory perception mechanisms, uncovered over decades in music neuroscience, to solve problems in clinical settings.”
Professor Choi Byung-Yoon of the Department of Otolaryngology at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, who collaborated on the project, remarked, “While cochlear implants are revolutionary in restoring hearing, the rehabilitation process has been challenging. This collaboration with Bell Therapeutics offers a new approach that we hope will provide practical assistance to cochlear implant users and medical professionals globally.”
Lee Jae-Eun, CEO of Bell Therapeutics, emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting that it addresses real-world challenges faced by patients and medical professionals through the fusion of art and technology. She added that the company’s innovative approach has garnered international attention and has paved the way for collaborations with otolaryngology experts worldwide.
Bell Therapeutics is currently conducting clinical research to verify the effectiveness of their new auditory rehabilitation program, aiming to set new standards in cochlear implant rehabilitation.
